Bento #12

IMG_0016

Contents:

  • Match Meat Crab Cake
  • Blueberries
  • Salad: Romaine, Carrots, Edamame, Avocado

Todays lunch included veggie crab cakes from a local company called Match Meats. We can buy their products at our local whole foods. I'm not sure if they're available at all whole foods or not. The products are a little pricier, but the flavors and textures are awesome. I also really like that they're local. I also seldom put avocado in my salads just because I forget. Hopefully this salad leaves an imprint on m memory because it was delicious!

Valentines Bento!

Bento #11

Contents:
-Spaghetti with Homemade Veggie Bolognese
-Babybel
-Golden Raisin, Fennel, Semolina & Sesame Crustini
-Straight Up Love

I picked up the bread at a local bakery here. The combo sounds a little out there, but I've never bought anything there that wasn't incredible so I gave it a shot. Sooo worth it! While I was there I also scored these cookies:

Bento #10

Record Breaking bento.

Bento #10

This bento was made in less than two minutes. We were also super low on groceries hence the lack of color. Everything was found in the freezer and steamed once I got to work.

Contents:

  • Veggie Sausage
  • Edamame
  • Spinach and Mushroom Bao

We did manage to make it to the grocery store this evening with a quick stop at the Asian food store, so there should be some prettier bentos on the way. The rest of tonight and tomorrow will be spent working on this month's giveaway. Stay posted!

Mushroom Udon Bento

Bento #8

It doesn't feel like we have Udon in the house all that often, but it's one of my favorite bentos to pack. We make it to the Asian food market about once a month and I always pick up a few packs. Think ramen, but with thick chewy noodles.

I always prepare this with a table salad. Traditionally this is just a huge plate of little things to add to your soup and everyone at the table picks their choice of toppings from the plate to add to their bowls. Today mine consisted of:

  • Shitake Mushrooms
  • Cilantro
  • Bean Sprouts
  • Quail Eggs
  • Enoki Mushrooms
  • Green Onions
  • Fried Tofu
  • Red Pepper Flakes

Bento #9

After you've added the items from your table salad they will cook a tiny bit in the broth. Everything gets warm, but it retains it's fresh crispness. This is a filling lunch for sure, but the broth base keeps it from being a heavy meal. The Hello Kitty is a furikake dispenser that I got from my Mom last Christmas. I used it today to hold the red pepper flakes.

*Side note: I spotted this while we were at the Asian food store:

Crunk Up!

It made me giggle. :)

Bento #8

Contents:

  • Soy glazed carrots & tofu
  • Steamed rice
  • Steamed broccoli, red pepper & snow peas

This was awesome! Recipe originally from Everyday Food. The rice wine vinegar and toasted sesame oil add a tanginess to the marinade that pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the carrots. We used tofu but I bet this would be great with chicken too!

Bento #7

Bento #7

This was my day after Thanksgiving bento. Always one of the best of the year. Easy to assemble due to copious leftovers and generally composed exclusively of comfort foods. It did not disappoint and made working the day after Thanksgiving that much more enjoyable!

Contents:

  • Asian style green beans with mushrooms, garlic, ginger & soy sauce
  • Stuffing with sauteed onions & carrots
  • Mashed potatoes

Super quick lunch! I just popped the potato in the microwave while I jumped in the shower, grabbed a few toppings when I got out and lunch was ready. The broccoli steamed in it's container at work while the potato reheated. Definitely one to repeat!

Contents:

  • Baked Potato
  • Broccoli
  • Cheddar Cheese Shreds
  • Cherry tomatoes
