The move is really what has sucked up most of my time. I'll post something a little more in depth once I get some more things unpacked. Hope things are well with you!

I'm pinning for you...

As soon as I found out about pinterest I requested an invite. At the time it was not open to the public and I had to be put on a wait list to finally get an account. Since that day I have used pinterest almost on a daily basis and with the most recent bug fixes on the phone app I use it even more!

For those of you that aren't familiar with pinterest it is essentially a giant cork board for you to use to organize the internet. As you surf the web looking for inspiration, recipes, a laugh or the next big sale, you have the opportunity to pin things that you find and like to a board that you've created on your profile. Each pinned item includes a photo, caption and link back to the original place you found it.

As an avid blog reader, I am always coming across cute ideas, recipes or stories that I would like to read. With pinterest I can store all of them in one place for quick reference. I also use it a lot to hold inspiration images for new projects I'm working on. I have had whole boards dedicated to various color combinations.

Once you open you account and start pinning you have the option to follow other pinners. When you choose to follow someone all of their pins show up in your home feed and you have the option to repin the any of the items that that they've liked. The whole process is addictive. It's easy to pop on just for a few minutes and find yourself three hours later wallowing around at the bottom of the internet surrounded by Ryan Gossling "Hey Girl" posters, but if used correctly, I'd recommend it to anyone!

This week alone I made these pinterest recipes:

Dirty Pirate popsicles -

Crushed Potatoes -

Moded a t-shirt for a charity event using this tutorial -

And fell in love with this bunny -

Oh pinterest, if you could just shed a few million images of crayons melted on canvases and tacky maternity photos you'd be perfect, but I still think what we have is pretty special!

Making Progress

Prints

Today I'm finally getting around to framing some of the artwork that I've collected and left stacked around my apartment for ages. I will be funding the effort with a number of gift cards I recieved for Christmas and left stacked around my apartment for ages. It's coming full circle! The stacks are now eliminating themselves!

I've made some serious progress over the past few months purging excess items from my house. I'm not on a first name basis with the guys at the goodwill donations drop off yet, but honestly, I should be. I'm still probably a few weeks away from where I would like to be. Which is awesome because the summer has completely flown by and I have some pretty big plans for this Fall. Details to follow!

Off the Grid

I recently fell off the grid and I have to admit, it was pretty nice. After the rush of the holidays I was long over due for some me time. I unplugged my computer and spent minimal time on the social media apps I tend to rely on. While I was gone I took a small trip to visit friends, read two books and then started two more, did some just because baking, reorganized a few sections of my apartment and found a new favorite hang out. Amazeballs! Now I'm ready to get back on track.

Here's a small glimpse at what I've been up to, details to follow:

2012 Goals

I've tried, unsuccessfully, three times now to write a year end recap blog post. After this last time (about 30 min. ago), I've decided that its just not meant to be. My current computer has no interest in what happened last year and keeps freezing when I take interest so I will instead only look forward and post a few goals I have for the coming year.

  1. Update my website & blog. Frealz.
  2. Blog 3x per week.
  3. Finish some started projects: screen printing, fabric design & assorted projects currently cluttering my craft room.
  4. Learn some front end coding.
  5. Take more photos.
  6. Refinish the freaking chairs.
  7. Start quilting again.
  8. Volunteer more.
  9. Take more trips.
  10. Write more tutorials.

So far the new year is looking pretty promising. I'm looking forward to crossing some of these off. Hope you had a great weekend!

Happy Holidays!

IMG_0300
I just got home from a long, relaxing weekend with the family. For the past few years my Mom has lightened up the mood of Christmas and rather than hosting a formal family gathering she's been hosting an informal open house. We spend the morning as a family leisurely opening gifts, playing games and watching movies, then in the afternoon, we spread out a huge table of snacks and enjoy visits from family and friends traveling about town. It's so nice. I love getting to see everyone without the stress of tight schedules and hard to meet deadlines.

This year my nephew was old enough to really get excited about Christmas. He is so much fun! I spent the bulk of the weekend teaching him secret handshakes, playing baseball in the house (sorry Mom) and coaxing him to only refer to me as favorite Aunt Kali. I am happy to report that I was successful in my last venture. It comes out a little more like "Fave Kay-yee", but that's totally a win and I'm keeping it! Other notable Christmas events: a wardrobe change to counter my brothers shirt choice, the white elephant Bieber singing toothbrush I scored, playing candy-land for the first time with my nephew, and getting the coolest techy sewing book ever from my sister and brother in law. I'm sure you'll be hearing more about it soon! Hope you had a great Holiday!

I will be spending the rest of my afternoon and evening attempting to rid my apartment of gold glitter. The wrapping paper looked really cute neatly sealed in plastic. Not so much covering everything I own. Lesson learned.

Getting Festive

Remember those toys I was raving about a few weeks ago? Last week I finally got around to buying them! I had a minor panic attack when I got to the holiday isle and only found Rudolf, thinking I'd waited too long and missed out. Luckily, the sweetest girl went back into the stock room and dug through multiple boxes to find me a complete collection. She was an absolute doll! I made sure I found her manager before I left to brag about how awesome she was.

Here's a shot of them all together. They're larger than I expected, each standing about 4" high, but they're so cute! You'll be seeing them dispersed throughout my house in my holiday decorating pics shortly.

If you've been reading for a while you might remember last years Deep Sea Tree, where I went completely overboard on my tree theme and ended up sewing all of my ornaments and a tree topper. This year I picked another kitsch theme that will require me to sew some ornaments, just not quite as many as last year. Added bonus for you... I'll be posting a free pattern on the Totally Stitchin' blog for one of the ornaments! I'll let you know when it goes up. In the mean time here's a teaser pic of this years theme.

Any guesses as to what it is? I made the unfortunate discovery last night that the dogs now know how to climb the furniture and eat ornaments directly off of the tree. I spent some time tonight rearranging the ornaments I already had up and I'll have to reconsider my set up for this year. C'est la vie. I'll be posting more pics as I make more progress.

Thanksgiving in Instagram

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you living stateside! I hope you enjoyed your Holiday. Mine was pretty great and I'm loving the weekend that's following it just as much! This year I invited some friends over on Thanksgiving Eve and we watched Pushing Daisies while we prepped dishes for Thanksgiving and drank hot chocolate with Baileys - a winter favorite!

Oh, and cake pops. There were definitely cake pops! I made soy glazed green beans with toasted sesame seeds and upside down cranberry cake to bring to my family gathering and then we made an extra cake to eat that night. It was delicious!

The next morning I loaded up the car with the food, the pups and a couple of early Christmas gifts for my nephew and then headed to my Mom's house for lunch. She always makes The most incredible meals. Everything is handmade including hand rolled egg noodles that need to be rolled out and dried days in advance. I'm the only vegetarian in my family, but she always makes me my own tiny pan of vegetarian noodles and then usually buys a tofurkey or fieldloaf to round it off. She's the sweetest!

At the end of the night I made my brother take me to see the Muppet movie and when we got home my nephew was awake so we got to dress him in his tiny suit for a few pictures. It's sooooo cute! I LOVE it! My family is awesome. I have so much to be thankful for!

This weekend is my final craft show of the year if you're in the area, and you get the chance, you should stop by the Rock n Roll Craft Show to pick up some goodies and support local artists!

Fading Fall

A few weeks ago I took a walking photography class to better acquaint myself with my camera. The info provided was pretty basic, but I definitely feel like I know my camera better, which is pretty awesome! Here are a few shots from our walk:

I really love birch trees! I think we hit our peak fall colors last week and as soon as they reach their peak they start falling. All of the trees on my street are almost completely bare now. It's nice to have these photos to look back on. Nicer still knowing how to better use my camera in the future!

I have family from out of state visiting this weekend and I'm prepping for a large holiday craft show I have at the end of the month. Just typing that made me yawn. I think it's time to brew a fresh pot of ginger spice coffee and maybe put on some christmas claymation... Did you see the new holiday claymation toy line Target just released? Heidi Kenney of My Papercrane posted pics earlier in the week and I almost fainted! Definitely picking those up soon! Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!

Toys & Terrariums

I changed up my fall decorating a bit this year by replacing all of my live flower vases with terrariums built in vases. I picked up some dry moss at the dollar store, but was able to find everything else I needed in my apartment or outside. I really loved how they turned out!

I liked the terrariums so well I used the pebbles and moss in some remaining vases with candles. Kind of a fun new way to showcase some of my favorite toys!
