Getting Festive

Remember those toys I was raving about a few weeks ago? Last week I finally got around to buying them! I had a minor panic attack when I got to the holiday isle and only found Rudolf, thinking I'd waited too long and missed out. Luckily, the sweetest girl went back into the stock room and dug through multiple boxes to find me a complete collection. She was an absolute doll! I made sure I found her manager before I left to brag about how awesome she was.

Here's a shot of them all together. They're larger than I expected, each standing about 4" high, but they're so cute! You'll be seeing them dispersed throughout my house in my holiday decorating pics shortly.

If you've been reading for a while you might remember last years Deep Sea Tree, where I went completely overboard on my tree theme and ended up sewing all of my ornaments and a tree topper. This year I picked another kitsch theme that will require me to sew some ornaments, just not quite as many as last year. Added bonus for you... I'll be posting a free pattern on the Totally Stitchin' blog for one of the ornaments! I'll let you know when it goes up. In the mean time here's a teaser pic of this years theme.

Any guesses as to what it is? I made the unfortunate discovery last night that the dogs now know how to climb the furniture and eat ornaments directly off of the tree. I spent some time tonight rearranging the ornaments I already had up and I'll have to reconsider my set up for this year. C'est la vie. I'll be posting more pics as I make more progress.

Thanksgiving in Instagram

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you living stateside! I hope you enjoyed your Holiday. Mine was pretty great and I'm loving the weekend that's following it just as much! This year I invited some friends over on Thanksgiving Eve and we watched Pushing Daisies while we prepped dishes for Thanksgiving and drank hot chocolate with Baileys - a winter favorite!

Oh, and cake pops. There were definitely cake pops! I made soy glazed green beans with toasted sesame seeds and upside down cranberry cake to bring to my family gathering and then we made an extra cake to eat that night. It was delicious!

The next morning I loaded up the car with the food, the pups and a couple of early Christmas gifts for my nephew and then headed to my Mom's house for lunch. She always makes The most incredible meals. Everything is handmade including hand rolled egg noodles that need to be rolled out and dried days in advance. I'm the only vegetarian in my family, but she always makes me my own tiny pan of vegetarian noodles and then usually buys a tofurkey or fieldloaf to round it off. She's the sweetest!

At the end of the night I made my brother take me to see the Muppet movie and when we got home my nephew was awake so we got to dress him in his tiny suit for a few pictures. It's sooooo cute! I LOVE it! My family is awesome. I have so much to be thankful for!

This weekend is my final craft show of the year if you're in the area, and you get the chance, you should stop by the Rock n Roll Craft Show to pick up some goodies and support local artists!

Bento #23

- Spinach Salad with Mock Chicken
- Roasted Potatoes, Carrots & Onions

I have been on a huge spinach salad kick recently. They're so easy to throw together! I change up toppings daily and supplement with any leftovers I have in the fridge - hence the roasted veg.

Fading Fall

A few weeks ago I took a walking photography class to better acquaint myself with my camera. The info provided was pretty basic, but I definitely feel like I know my camera better, which is pretty awesome! Here are a few shots from our walk:

These last few were taken on a fall colors boat tour I took with my Mom on a recent trip to Minnesota.

I really love birch trees! I think we hit our peak fall colors last week and as soon as they reach their peak they start falling. All of the trees on my street are almost completely bare now. It's nice to have these photos to look back on. Nicer still knowing how to better use my camera in the future!

I have family from out of state visiting this weekend and I'm prepping for a large holiday craft show I have at the end of the month. Just typing that made me yawn. I think it's time to brew a fresh pot of ginger spice coffee and maybe put on some christmas claymation... Did you see the new holiday claymation toy line Target just released? Heidi Kenney of My Papercrane posted pics earlier in the week and I almost fainted! Definitely picking those up soon! Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!

What I wore: Special Zootini Edition!

This what I wore post is going to stray a little from the standard format. I was recently asked by some of the hosts of this years Zootini party to do an outfit post describing what I would wear to the event.

For those of you who aren't familiar with it, Zootini is an annual party held at the St. Louis Zoo. This year it will be a costume party with an animal theme. The suggested attire is "hip with an animal flare." I might have gotten a little carried away while I was picking out my items *cough*Alexander McQueen bag *cough*, but I think you'll get the general idea, and all of the items would be easy to swap out with more moderately priced selections or items from your own closet. I had so much fun putting these together! This is what I would wear:

Rachel Antonoff pleated dress, $245
8000 Nerves bow blouse, $82
Falke cable knit socks, $30
Naughty Monkey tan boots, $85
Yellow jewelry, $18
Gold plated jewelry, £17
River Island fake fur hat, £18

Button dress, $78
Anna Sui microfiber tight, $16
Jeffrey Campbell sparkly heels, $125
Peacock feather jewelry, $5.99
Hair clip accessory, $12

Betsey Johnson strapless cocktail dress, $398
H m jacket, £30
French Connection leather shoes, £115
Alexander McQueen animal print clutch, £845
Kate Spade short necklace, $78

Zootini guests will be treated to live music, a costume contest and a raffle with some great prizes!  This event is open to the public so you don't need to be a zoo member to get in on the action. Advance tickets are available for purchase here. (Guests must be 21 or older - this is a cocktail party.)

Wait! Are you ready for the best news? My readers will receive 2 free drink tickets if they purchase their admission tickets today and enter in the promotional code: RAWR! Awesome right?!? Did you have a favorite look? If so, let me know in the comments!

Toys & Terrariums

I changed up my fall decorating a bit this year by replacing all of my live flower vases with terrariums built in vases. I picked up some dry moss at the dollar store, but was able to find everything else I needed in my apartment or outside. I really loved how they turned out!

I liked the terrariums so well I used the pebbles and moss in some remaining vases with candles. Kind of a fun new way to showcase some of my favorite toys!

Happy Halloween!

Did you do anything fun? After changing my costume idea a million times I settled on a Piranha Plant from Super Mario Brothers.

Piranha Plant

I was able to put the whole thing together in about 5 hours using only things I found in my apartment. I know most people don't randomly find large rolls of 1/2 inch foam in the back of their closets but...eh. I'll take it.

In addition to my costume, I've been meaning to post pics of my Halloween decorations for a while now. Better late than never!

Tonight I spent a quiet evening at home with with friends making dinner and passing out candy. It was pretty awesome. I could handle Halloween taking place once a week.
